O Flowers, O Leaves, How I Envy You!

O Flowers, O Leaves. How I Envy You!

Sitting by my window

All by myself, in solitude, sometimes in loneliness,

I’ve often watched

flowers tucked gloriously among leaves,

living their lives to the full,

then making to leave,

losing their vibrant hues,

fading and drying,

gradually sailing down,

petal by petal,

silently, soundlessly

to the cool embrace of mother earth,

the mother who produced them from its womb,

to cheer the world,

make it a better place to live in.

I’ve often watched

leaves, the life of the plant, land

the whole living world,

losing their chlorophyll laden shades of green,

to wear a dry, withered looking brown cover,

hanging hesitatingly for a while,

reluctantly, lifelessly,

awaiting a mild nudge from the gentle breeze

to let go, drop down

to be one with the mother earth,

the mother who produced them from its womb,

to cheer the world,

make it a better place to live in.

That is the perennial cycle of the nature,

producing things and beings

to make this world exist and sustain.

I suddenly wonder, peeping within,

if, existing and sustaining,

living and flourishing through

all my sixty four springs and autumns,

have I really been able to do my bit

to make this world a better place to live in?

O flowers! O leaves!

How I envy you!

How I envy you!
